Captain's Reports
2009 in with a bang!!!
WHAT TIME IS IT BOYS & GIRLS ? No it\'s not Howdy Doody time. It\'s time to be fishing for big fish. Hunting season is over, and so is football season almost. So why are you sitting at home watching fishing shows on TV when you could be down here in Port Mansfield wetting a line and hooked up with a big ole sow trout or a big red. This fall and winter has been the best we\'ve down here in quite a few years for good quality trout along with all the big reds ready to pound your bait. I don\'t know what is causing all of this. It could be the jetties being dredged, or the new trout limits or the lack of fishing pressure. I will let someone smarter than me answer those questions. I just know the fishing has been real good and should only get better. We have changed our usual pattern a lttle. No need to head out before the crack of dawn. we are going out after sun up and the water starts warming. we are working grass pockets and mud flats with topwaters and with gulps under a cajun thunder or mansfield mauler. When the water warms up we move to the flats and work there. There have been a lot of reports of 27 to 30 inc trout being caught. It sure is fun when you get hooked up. Wading seems to be the best but drifting works too. Best times seem to be after a front when the water starts warming. I know that times are tough for a lot of people, but there is no better way to releave stress than to be on the water working some big fish. If you are really interested in fishing Port Mansfield. Get hold of me to discuss some special prices I have for the early spring season. Tight lines and Screamin Reels!! Capt. Bob
